Waddington Village Residents Told No Burn Barrels, No Burning Leaves BY MATT AKINS WADDINGTON - Waddington officials want to inform town and village residents that they can no longer drop off brush and leaves at the village barn, use burn barrels inside the village limits or burn leaves in their backyards in the village. Town Clerk Carol Burns said they received word from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) that people could be fined up to $10,000 for doing it. "Due to circumstances beyond our control we cannot accept brush or leaves at the village barn," Burns said. They also received word from the DEC that there is no burning of brush or leaves inside the village limits, according to Burns. She said they were informed by the DEC that this was part of the village ordinance, and people could also be fined. This includes the use of burn barrels, according to the DEC. |
